Deeper Faith

There is a danger to shallow faith: life is easy, simple, and unchallenged. There is no cultivated dependency upon God, only the vineyard of self-reliance. Human nature is prone to take the path of least resistance and self-preservation, drawn to choose ease over challenge and comfort over pain. As Christians, we are called not only to believe, but to follow and following demands a deeper faith than self, on its own, can produce. God has called us into a deep walk with Him that cannot be known when treading the safe and lifeless waters of complacency and despondency. He beckons us to push off the shore, to lose sight of the shoreline, to surrender the safe ground of retreat from within our reach. The farther we go with God, the deeper the faith required. Deeper water demands deeper faith. It is in the shoreless living and bottomless waters of trust that we must lean into God, yielding to His control and command, because without Him, we have come to understand that we will never make it to the harbor of the next destination.

Deeper faith is calling to me, to you, to all of us not matter where we may find ourselves in the journey of our Christian life; young or old, weathered or weary, strong or weak, whole or broken, yielded or running.
